Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from, everything we deny, denigrate or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. what seems nasty, painful, evil, can become a source of beauty, joy, and strength, if faced with an open mind. Henry Miller (American writer)
This year’s human rights programme of PÖFF is titled “Diversity Enriches”. It’s a programme which shows how everything people run away from is actually so average and normal. It’s a programme from which we can see how similar we all are in spite of our differences.
In the human rights programme there are films about falling in love and never feeling loved; wishes and ambition; inner conflicts and never-ending willpower. Films about children and about the elderly. In other words everything that is normal and routine. And this is exactly how it is – this is the everyday life of the “heroes” from the films. Those heroes fall in love with the people from the same sex. Or they might have difficulty moving around. These are all people who could enrich our everyday lives.
Similarly to previous years there are different thematic events in the atrium of the Solaris Centre. All of which are related to the human rights film screened before the event. There are a variety of topics and many interesting performers.
The human rights programme is organized by Tallinn Law School at Tallinn University of Technology and Black Nights Film Festival.
